(GLOSSARY)

# Buyer intent

Observable signals that a company is in the market for something like what you sell.

Buyer intent is behaviour that suggests an active need: hiring for a role that implies the problem, publishing a tender, changing a technology, opening a new market, or engaging with content about the problem.

Intent data is split into first-party (what happens on your own site and in your own conversations) and third-party (signals collected elsewhere). First-party intent is weaker in volume and far stronger in reliability.

Intent ages quickly. A signal that is three months old usually says more about last quarter than about the current pipeline.

## How we use it

Intent signals are used to decide the order of outreach and the angle of the first message, not to claim that a prospect is ready to buy.
